A little bit about our brand, Wholly Cow Ice Cream, started in 1984 first in Hilton Head and then shortly after, moved to Charleston. We were originally called Ice Cream and Coffee Beans because the company made our own ice cream and roasted our own beans. At the time, artisan coffee was really limited and a specialized drink. This was before the big national chains of shops were on every corner offering lattes, cappuccinos and frappes. Our coffee was unique and the ice cream was and still is incredible. The brand was crowned Wholly Cow and soon, several cafes serving the ice cream, coffee along with some food options were open. The Wholly Cow Cafes expanded to a total of 18 locations around South Carolina; a mix of corporate and independent operated shops. Wholly Cow Cafes were prominent for 20 plus years and many people have fond memories. Ownership of Wholly Cow changed in 2010 and it later led to closures of most of the branded shops, roasting plant and moved the primary focus to supply our ice cream, wholesale to restaurants. In 2017, the brand was acquired by our family and has been operated ever since. We expanded our wholesale, added retail pints and in 2024, purchased an ice cream shop that had been a wholesale customer. We renovated and rebranded the shop to Wholly Cow Ice Cream and Coffee located at 3642 Savannah Highway Johns Island, a short drive from Downtown Charleston (more on our shop later). Today we take great pride in our Wholly Cow Ice Cream and Sorbets which are served in some of the best local restaurants, hotels, food trucks and ice cream shops in Charleston and throughout South Carolina. We continue our more than 40 year old tradition
